Dreaming Futures

About us

We are an independent registered charity.

Dreaming Futures walks alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, on Country and in culture.

Why we existGet involved

Our vision

A future with no young people living in out-of-home care.

Everything we do comes back to this. It is why we build trust first, walk with families and carers, and work on Country and in culture.

Where we come from

Built for a gap Shawn kept seeing.

Dreaming Futures was founded by Shawn Andrews, a Mununjali and Migunberri man of the Yugambeh language group. Shawn saw a gap in the system between care and a working life, and set out to build a pathway across it, grounded in culture.

Our experience comes from the work. Through a company called Indigicate, Shawn ran camps for schools, multi-day journey programs and children's camps, as well as out-of-home care programs, on-Country programs and overseas programs for children in care.

After COVID, Dreaming Futures was launched as the charity arm of Indigicate. COVID had forced Indigicate to close, and the charity carries that work on. We are still growing, and we are building it with community, Elders and people with lived experience of care.

The Buneen Group

Shawn Andrews also founded the Buneen Group, which includes Buneen Consulting. The Group shares our interest and works alongside us to help change the systems that limit Aboriginal children in care from succeeding. Dreaming Futures is independent and runs differently.

Their stories are theirs

We never use a child's story or image to raise money. Adults who grew up in care may choose to tell their own story, in their own way.
